We jump-started 2017 with Healthy Happens Here Miami and our “Under 500 Calories” and low in sodium menu during January’s #ThinkPBHealthy month of new promises and resolutions.

Living in Miami’s health-conscious atmosphere, we wanted to provide healthy options available 24 Hours for our Pinecrest Bakery friends and family. Now they can eat like a real Cuban sin engordar!

We officially launched our “Under 500 Calories” menu at two of our locations! (One at our original Pinecrest store, 12101 S. Dixie Hwy., and the other at the Miami Beach store, 1511 Alton Road.) By Summer 2017, we would like most of our PB bakeries to proudly serve our “Under 500 Menu.” Que rico es el salud!

For a year long journey, since February 2016, the P-Team has been working with Leyanee Perez, founder of the government program, Make Healthy Happen Miami, serving to promote healthier lifestyles in Miami-Dade County restaurants by offering healthy menu foods and beverages approved by registered/licensed dietitians.

Our aim was to create a healthy menu with a modern twist on our Cuban tradition. The modernity of health-conscious portions, fewer calorie seasonings, and lower sodium ingredients to provide traditional Cuban food options that we all know and love.

Dalé, come and try some of our new sabroso y saludable items:

Skinny Tortilla Espanola – Healthier version of the traditional Tortilla Española; instead of the typical chorizo, we use low sodium and low fat turkey. 360 calories, 520 mg sodium

Skinny Mojo Chicken Wrap – Half size portion of our typical wraps, it is satisfying with our sweet low fat raspberry vinaigrette. 300 calories, 470 mg sodium

Skinny Medianoche Wrap – Snack wrap favorite hot off la plancha oozing melted cheese, you’ll want and can afford (calorie-wise) a second order! Healthy version of the traditional Media Noche sandwich with more pork than ham, since it is lower in sodium. 260 calories, 560 mg sodium

Meeting with our dietitian, and being hands on in the kitchen, taught Pinecrest Bakery about nutrition, especially since we like to give our customers more food than they should eat! We are more aware of unnecessary sodium and oils, and conscious of appropriate portion sizes that require extra time and attention to weigh by ounce was extremely eye-opening for us. Along with this new healthy perspective, we provide these extra time labor sensitive food choices at an affordable $4.99 per item price to truly bring health to everyone!
