Giving Thanks with the Kiwanis Club

Giving Thanks with the Kiwanis Club
Published by Biscayne Bay Tribune, “Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club provides Thanksgiving Meals to those in Need”

Our good friends at the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club invited us to join them this holiday season in sharing with the community, giving back, and giving thanks.

The Kiwanis Club (located in Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida) is one of the most active volunteer community service organizations, and is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children in various areas of Florida.

Four days before Thanksgiving, the organization donated groceries and full Thanksgiving meals, “to 75 inner city families from five different elementary schools,” according to the Biscayne Bay Tribune.

Publix Supermarket donated reusable shopping bags, and on the day of the event (held at Phillis Wheatley Elementary), families were able to “shop” through the donated items and fill their empty bags to the brim.

Pinecrest Bakery baked over 600 traditional media noche rolls for the event, and made sure the “pan” stayed fresh and soft by packing them in plastic bags.

The Club wanted to be sure the kids would have extra food during the extended break from school, as many rely on the government programs for breakfast and lunch.

Gladys and Victoria, founding family members of Pinecrest Bakery, represented PB during the giveaway and were glad to spend quality time together at the school while also getting to know the families.

“…[T]his was the first time in our 66-year history that we have ever undertaken a project of this magnitude,” said Club President Nellie Hernandez.

The turn-out was tremendous, and it was an honor to provide quality food to hardworking families within the community.
